You will lead the Facilities team, ensure compliant maintenance, calibration and utilities, and drive improvements across laboratory equipment and processes within a cGMP framework.

The role requires senior leadership, hands-on engineering expertise, and a strong focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and budget management.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading facilities or engineering teams in a regulated, cGMP environment.
  • Hands-on engineering background with upgrades to facilities, lab equipment, and processes.
  • Familiarity with cGMP, investigations, CAPAs, and change controls.
  • Asset management / CMMS experience (e.g., Blue Mountain).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Facilities team to deliver compliant operations across maintenance, calibration, and utilities.
  • Maintain SOPs, reports, equipment files, calibration records.
  • Act as SME during audits and support investigations, CAPAs, RCA.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Oversee health and safety initiatives and site safety leadership.

This exciting opportunity is ideal for a seasoned engineering leader with hands-on experience in facilities management, laboratory equipment, and process improvements within a regulated environment.In this pivotal role, you will oversee the daily operations of the Facilities function, ensuring reliable, compliant services that support critical laboratory activities. You will be responsible for leading a team, managing key facilities projects, and contributing to site-wide strategic initiatives—all while maintaining a focus on safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**Your duties as the Engineering & Facilities Associate Director will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows: – Lead the Facilities team to deliver reliable, compliant operations across maintenance, calibration, and utilities, ensuring all activities support cGMP standards and site compliance. – Maintain all department documentation such as SOPs, reports, equipment files, calibration records, and asset data in inspection-ready condition. – Act as SME during audits, supporting investigations, CAPAs, change controls, and root cause analysis to resolve deviations effectively. – Drive process improvements across facilities, utilities, and equipment to enhance efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. – Support health and safety initiatives, acting as Emergency Coordinator and safety leader, with a focus on IOSH/NEBOSH aligned activities. – Oversee waste management strategies ensuring full compliance with biological, chemical, and GMO regulations. – Manage out-of-hours response, site call-out rota, and contribute to business continuity planning. – Monitor and improve facilities KPIs and SLAs, ensuring performance and accountability are maintained. – Support site capital expenditure projects, cost control, and budget planning (OPEX/CAPEX). – Represent the facilities function in leadership forums and liaise with external service providers, landlords, and regulatory bodies. – As the Associate Director, you will also support cross-functional collaboration and broader facilities team activities to ensure best practices are shared and implemented.**ROLE REQUIREMENTS**To be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Engineering & Facilities Associate Director we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history: – A degree in Engineering, Science, or an equivalent related discipline. – Proven experience in a Facilities or Engineering leadership role within a regulated environment (cGMP preferred). – Strong hands-on engineering background, with evidence of delivering improvements across facilities, laboratory equipment, and processes. – Solid understanding of cGMP requirements, with experience supporting investigations, CAPAs, and change control processes. – Demonstrated ability to deputise at senior leadership level and manage stakeholder relationships effectively. – Experience with asset management/CMMS systems (e.g., Blue Mountain or similar), managing contractors, vendors, and capital projects. – Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety compliance, ideally with IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH certification.**WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?**Joining our client offers the chance to lead a vital facilities function within a cutting-edge biopharmaceutical environment.
