Job Description for Engineering Design Manager

The role is flexible in location, based at Sellafield or Risley.

Main Responsibilities for Engineering Design Manager

Reporting to the Head of Engineering:

• Ensure deployment of appropriate design standards and practices, delivering safe, compliant solutions aligned with UKNNL's Design Process.
• Fulfill duties as CDM Principal Designer.
• Engage subject matter experts timely, capture and disseminate lessons learned effectively.
• Ensure solutions meet performance demands, preserve design intent, and align with plant configuration.
• Generate necessary documentation for safety, legal compliance, and plant operation.
• Lead and support multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships within Engineering and UKNNL.
• Support continuous improvement activities within Engineering.

Reporting to Project Management:

• Deliver and control the work portfolio efficiently to meet specifications, costs, and schedules.
• Ensure design solutions are fit for purpose, integrated, affordable, and meet business and functional requirements.
• Identify and manage technical, safety, and engineering risks.
• Accurately report on work status and performance.
• Assign appropriate SQEP design resources to projects.

Essential Criteria

• HNC in Engineering
• Incorporated Engineer membership
• Significant experience in regulated, quality-assured engineering management roles
• Ability to obtain SC security clearance

Desirable Criteria

• MEng (Hons) qualification
• Chartered Engineer membership or equivalent experience
• Experience in the nuclear industry, preferably at Sellafield, in engineering management
