Position Summary:

This role involves delivering auxiliary power system designs and offering technical expertise across all contractual projects within the designated business unit. You will be accountable for completing engineering deliverables in line with set timelines and budget constraints.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop single-line diagrams for LVAC, LVDC, and UPS systems for both onshore and offshore substations, handling voltages up to 400kV related to Long-Term Strategy (LTS) projects.
  • Prepare technical specifications for LVAC, LVDC, and UPS equipment for similar substation environments.
  • Design protection and control systems for LVAC, LVDC, and UPS installations in alignment with LTS needs.
  • Conduct and document coordination studies and cable sizing for LVAC systems using Amtech software.
  • Perform coordination studies and cable sizing for LVDC systems and generate comprehensive reports.
  • Review supplier schematic drawings and documentation for LVAC, LVDC, and UPS systems.
  • Manage integration of alarm signals, control commands, and SCADA communications through protection schematics and logic diagrams.
  • Align equipment layout and physical dimensions of LVAC, LVDC, and UPS components with primary substation layouts.
  • Size auxiliary transformers, diesel generators (DG), and DC battery systems; prepare relevant documentation.
  • Draft technical specifications for auxiliary transformers and collaborate with the primary design team to coordinate layout and physical footprint.
  • Generate engineering and test specifications for both new developments and modifications of existing solutions.
  • Participate in internal and client-facing design reviews, providing in-depth technical feedback.
  • Create Auxiliary Power Compliance Matrices, Design Intent Documentation, and Functional Design Specifications.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and identify potential hazards (HAZIDs) as part of the design process to ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Oversee quality assurance through functional testing during Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at supplier facilities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 6 years of design experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution sector.
  • Familiarity with UK and British electrical standards.
  • Proven experience with auxiliary transformers and LVAC/LVDC systems.
  • Strong understanding of battery systems and UPS technologies.
