Job description

The Call Systems Technology (CST) Engineering Apprenticeship Programme is designed for motivated, hands-on talented people to join our Production team, where you’ll build, program, test and repair our state-of-the art wireless communications systems.

What You’ll Do

You’ll focus on developing electrical engineering skills, including manufacturing, programming and testing products. You will be a part of our Production team, working on systems for a huge variety of clients, including, O2 London, Sky Studios, Carnival Cruises, White Hart Stadium, Pizza Pilgrims, Flight Club, Waitrose, John Lewis, M&S, and many more well-known names.

If you’re someone who likes to figure out how and why things work, and then build them yourself, this role will interest and challenge you. You’ll be programming our equipment as well, as each system is tailored to the clients’ needs. You need a high attention to detail, good listening skills, and a real interest in innovative technology solutions.

The Role

You will spend most of your time as part of a small but busy team, alongside our other Production/Repair Engineers and warehouse staff. The rest of your Apprenticeship will be spent attending onsite sessions at college.

What you’ll do at work

  • Assembly and wiring of electrical components, of varying size and complexity using drawings, parts lists and specifications
  • Bench assembly of electrical sub-assemblies
  • Mechanical assembly of hubs and framework
  • Testing new products against test procedures, or to specification
  • Repairing and fault finding on existing equipment to component level
  • Completing documentation of production/repair processes and test reports as required
  • Supporting experienced engineers on installations and site surveys
  • Ensuring full adherence to the company's quality systems at all times

Requirements

  • Maths (grade 4/5)
  • Science (grade 4/5)

Plus one of the following qualifications:

  • A-Levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Computer Science

Skills

  • An analytic, logical approach to problem-solving
  • Willingness to learn and retain new information

Other requirements

A full clean driving licence will be required from the first year of your apprenticeship as you will be accompanying experienced engineers on client sites as part of your professional development.

After this apprenticeship

  • On completion of your apprenticeship, you will become either a Production Engineer or Installation & Service Engineer, working alongside colleagues who have helped you achieve this level of expertise
  • Alternatively, there are other roles to consider within our Technical Department, including Technical Support, 2 nd /3 rd line Technical Support, or further down the road, Project Engineer
  • We’re looking for an apprentice who plans to develop their career at CST for at least the next five years.
Location:

Field-based, with visits to Call Systems Technology (CST) office in Elstree as required.

What you'll get:

You’ll receive a full-time salary (starting at £16,000) from CST, where you’ll be working 80% of the time. The remaining 20% time, you’ll be getting formal training at college (HNC equivalent). Your training is at no cost to you, and at the successful completion of your apprenticeship, you’ll have a Level 4 qualification, no student debt, and be 3 years into your career at CST.
