WSP is looking for an Assistant Engineer to join our Wind Engineering team. Part of WSP UK's Specialists Group – our Wind Engineering team provide specialised wind engineering services in support of all the major multi-disciplinary projects of the business and is also uniquely positioned to offer independent and unbiased technical advice directly to end clients.

Our Wind Engineering team has access to an extensive network of trusted and high-quality boundary layer wind tunnel facilities which, often combined with WSP's in-house CFD modelling experts, are used to support its consultancy services. The team is highly client-focused and prides itself on delivering high technical quality on landmark projects to tight timescales and to a high degree of customer satisfaction.

A typical week would include:
  • Perform wind climate analysis studies.
  • Perform desktop studies.
  • Design wind tunnel experiments and liaise with model makers.
  • Attend wind tunnel tests / workshops as / when required.
  • Post-process and interpret wind tunnel data.
  • Technical report writing and preparation of presentation documents.
  • Collaborate and interact with the other WSP engineering disciplines as / when required.
  • Personal development.
We would love to hear from you if you have:
  • A degree in civil, mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Familiarity with a wind tunnel testing technology (previous boundary layer wind tunnel testing experience specifically in relation to wind effects on building structures will be considered advantageous for the role).
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Proficiency in usage of various CAD software, particularly Rhino 3D.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Aptitude for learning / developing new skills and tools.
  • Good problem-solving ability, striking a good balance between application of complex academic principles and practical engineering applications.
  • Good multi-tasking ability, prioritisation of workflow and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with commitment and accuracy under pressure with a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and within the context of a team.
  • Attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to the level of quality and accuracy expected by the team in the preparation of various reports, technical notes and presentations.
