Job description

Position Summary

Cambridge Materials Testing (CMTL), a division of Acuren, is currently recruiting for an Engineering Technologist to work in the Mechanical Testing Department to support our services in our laboratory. This position will be full time and based out of our facility in Cambridge, ON. Responsibilities

The position may be responsible for any of the following activities:

  • Determining mechanical properties and method of metallurgical sample preparation as per ASTM or other published standards;
  • Operating and calibrating the analysis equipment as directed;
  • Preparing and reviewing testing reports;
  • Laboratory sample preparation, testing and analysis utilizing experience and technical knowledge;
  • Documentation and photography of lab specimens;
  • Assisting more senior technical staff to perform complex technical projects.

Support of Laboratory Operation by:

  • Ensuring all instruments, tools, equipment and computers are maintained and in good working condition, and calibrated as required;
  • Maintaining the testing lab and testing area in a safe, clean and well-organized manner;
  • Maintaining equipment files that contain such information as equipment datasheet and maintenance history;
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Metallurgy / Materials / Welding / Engineering Technology disciplines;
  • General knowledge of metallurgy processes and techniques;
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and strong Microsoft Excel skills are required;
  • Experience/knowledge of mechanical testing, metallography, and/or scanning electron microscopy is considered a strong asset.

The position requires the following skills and abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking capability;
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective client relationships;
  • Analytical skills;
  • Comfort/experience performing hands-on work with tools and industrial equipment (band saws, cutting saws, etc.);
  • Proficient in metallographic specimen preparation;
  • Consistently demonstrates an understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations, and Acuren Safety and Quality Management Systems, policies, and procedures.
