VSL's business is based on four areas of expertise:

  • Structural systems and technologies
  • Civil engineering
  • Foundations and soil engineering
  • Preservation, structural repairs, renovation and optimization of structures.

VSL has 4,000 employees at 25 locations worldwide (Asia and Oceania, Middle East, Europe, Latin America, Canada).

Location: Ourém, Portugal (with frequent presence at VSL Headquarters in Oeiras)

About the Project

VSL Portugal is delivering the precasting works for the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayers (EWAP), a future global landmark to be installed near Birmingham, UK.

This is not a typical structure - it is a one-of-a-kind piece of art and engineering, where every brick carries symbolic meaning. The geometry twists, the logistics challenge convention, and the surface quality must be perfect. The project requires absolute technical precision, as even the smallest imperfection cannot be accepted.

If you want to be part of something never built before, this is your opportunity.

The Role

We are seeking an Engineer / Project Manager to join our Portugal-based team and lead the delivery of this unique precast structure. In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage a team responsible for project management and technical supervision.
  • Oversee preparation and installation of complex 3D rebar cages.
  • Manage preparation and operation of special moulds and forms.
  • Ensure geometry control of precast elements to meet exacting standards.
  • Supervise works on-site in Portugal and collaborate closely with stakeholders across the UK.
  • Act as a Project Manager, liaising with clients, designers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years' experience in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering.
  • Skilled in MS Excel and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with 3D sketching or programming is a plus.
  • Fit for physical work on construction sites.

However, we are also open to considering a young engineer with a strong technical background in bridge engineering. In this case, VSL Portugal's wider resources will support the project management side, while you focus on mastering the technical challenges of this landmark structure.

Personal Competencies
  • Excellent written and spoken English; Portuguese is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Willingness to relocate and integrate into Portugal if not local.
Why Join VSL?
  • Work on a once-in-a-generation project that blends art and complex engineering.
  • Contribute to a high-profile landmark with global visibility.
  • Be part of a team that thrives on innovation, precision, and collaboration.

This is more than a job. It's a chance to leave your mark on an iconic structure that will stand for centuries.
