Job Title: Engineer – Metrology (Instrumentation Calibration)


Location: Barrow-In-Furness (Onsite). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role


Salary: Negotiable depending on experience



What you’ll be doing:




  • Calibration and repair of a wide range of precision test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) against set procedures and technical specifications, including but not limited to gas detection instrumentation, temperature measurement instrumentation and electrical TMDE




  • Calibrations may be performed in a laboratory setting or in the field




  • Maintain accurate records of work activities including reporting of test results and non-conformances




  • Perform on the job training for trainees / apprentices, including development of training content




  • Contribute to creation and maintenance of calibration procedures including automated procedures and uncertainty budgets




Your skills and experiences:


Essential




  • Sound understanding of metrology systems and principles




  • Understanding of quality systems (ISO 9001, ISO 17025) and measurement uncertainties




  • Degree / HNC / HND in STEM related discipline or equivalent experience in metrology field




  • Experience working within a precision Calibration laboratory environment

The Calibration team:


The calibration department currently supports 30,000 pieces of TMDE per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment through to state-of-the-art digital systems. The department supports calibrations in a dedicated laboratory as well on site around the Barrow Submarines Site and Walney Aerodrome. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
