We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at HMP Maidstone, a men's prison.

Location: HMP Maidstone, 36 County Rd, Maidstone ME14 1UZ

HMP Maidstone functions like a self-contained town, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it operational. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, your work impacts prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will collaborate with experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, and more, all dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment.

We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical services to HMPPS, seeking a Mechanical Engineer with:

  • Two years’ experience as a plumber or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements
  • Experience with commercial/industrial heating and water systems
  • Understanding of health and safety standards
  • Qualifications: C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and Heating), NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing or equivalent
  • Good health and safety knowledge
  • Strong organisational and people skills
