Job Role: Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance Plumber) Location: HMP Wandsworth (SW18) Salary: £36,000 + an additional 5% salary in recognition of shift and weekend working Contract: Full Time - Permanent

We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at HMP Wandsworth, a category B male prison. HMP Wandsworth operates like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it functioning. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, we are committed to ensuring smooth and safe operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to making a positive difference and providing a secure environment. We require a Mechanical Engineer with any combination of the following:

  1. Two years’ experience working as a plumber or equivalent
  2. Familiarity with Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements
  3. Experience with commercial or industrial heating and water systems
  4. Good knowledge of health and safety requirements
  5. Plumber qualification to C&G 6035, C&G 6189, and NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent
  6. Strong Health & Safety knowledge
  7. Excellent organisational, time management, and people skills
