Job Role: Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance Plumber)
Location: HMP Springhill
Salary: £41,818.21 + 5% salary increase in recognition of shift and weekend working
Contract: Full Time - Perm

We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at HMP Springhill, a category D male prison.

HMP Springhill operates like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it functioning. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, you will contribute to the smooth and safe operation of the prison, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment.

We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical services to HMPPS, seeking a Mechanical Engineer with:

  1. At least two years' experience as a plumber or equivalent
  2. Knowledge of Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements
  3. Experience with commercial or industrial heating and water systems
  4. Good understanding of health and safety requirements
  5. Plumber qualification to C&G 6035, C&G 6189, NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  6. Strong health & safety knowledge
  7. Excellent organisational, time management, and people skills
