Overview
Jr. Manufacturing Engineer position in Scarborough, ON. The role supports electronics manufacturing processes, development, optimization, and production documentation. The candidate will identify opportunities to optimize products and manufacturing documents for better manufacturability.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with the Process Engineering Manager to assist with all manufacturing process related functions, including process implementation, process troubleshooting, and process improvements.
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Communicate with customers and suppliers regarding technical issues related to products and components.
- Prepare production documents from manufacturing files received from customers and maintain these files in production build configurations.
- Represent manufacturing in DFMEA and PFMEA creation and updates.
- Create assembly flow charts or supervise supplier assembly flow charts creation for manufacturing or rework activities.
- Create Work Instructions or supervise supplier Work Instruction creation for manufacturing or rework activities.
- Identify DFM/A improvements to existing products including a cost benefit analysis for senior evaluation and approval.
- Input manufacturing (tooling, assembly and manufacturing test equipment) estimates to quotations for potential customers.
- Assist in workflow analysis and make recommendations for material handling and shop layout improvements.
- Establish and maintain work standards for product costing and productivity measurement.
- Follow all health & safety procedures, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, Electronic Systems Engineering, or similar field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing engineering in a medium-to-high volume manufacturing environment.
- General knowledge of processes on the product floor including Surface Mount Technology, Wave Solder, Mechanical Assembly, Ergonomics, and Material Flow.
- General knowledge of lean/six sigma is preferred.
- Expertise in DFM/A techniques.
- Experience with new customer product manufacturing launches.
- Proven ability to create and execute project plans that achieve targets.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong technical background with logical deductive reasoning.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong problem solving and root cause analysis abilities.
- Good organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to interpret and follow company policies and procedures.
- Interest in developing technical skills through internal and external training.
- Effective verbal and written communication; ability to conduct presentations.
- Knowledge of ISO 9000 requirements.
- Ability to prioritize strategic tasks in a time-sensitive environment.
