Job summary

Transport for London seeks a Plant Engineer to support safe, reliable operation of plant and assets across the network. You will work within Central Engineering, Transport System Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering to manage existing assets and enable new engineering solutions.

You will apply TfL engineering standards and risk management practices, with emphasis on asset information, data analysis, and digital processes to drive improvements.

Overview of Role

As a Plant Engineer within Transport for London, you will support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant and engineering assets across the transport network. Working within Central Engineering, Transport System Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering, you will contribute to the management of existing assets while supporting the introduction of new engineering solutions and technologies.

You will have experience in the application of TfL engineering standards relating to the approval, operation and maintenance of track plant, or equivalent experience applying relevant national and European railway engineering standards. You will be familiar with industry risk management methodologies and their application to machinery, engineering projects, and asset assurance activities.

The role requires experience in the development, review and implementation of engineering standards and technical documentation. This includes assessing the wider system implications of engineering changes, supporting stakeholder consultation, and ensuring compliance with engineering and regulatory requirements.

You will have a good working knowledge of health and safety legislation relating to machinery and work equipment, ideally supported by experience within track maintenance, track renewal or railway infrastructure environments. An understanding of railway plant classifications and practical involvement in the procurement, introduction, approval, and assurance of Railborne plant is desirable.

A key aspect of the role is the management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of TfL's Plant Database, ensuring the quality, accuracy and integrity of asset and engineering information. You will support planning activities, performance reporting, asset data analysis, and management information development, providing accurate information to support engineering decision making.

You will also support the administration and monitoring of plant approval programmes, identify opportunities for process improvement, and contribute to the implementation of digital solutions that enhance asset information management, reporting capabilities, and plant approval processes across the business.

Plant maintenance, modification, and assurance.

Application of Machinery Safety Regulations and associated engineering standards.

Preparation and review of risk assessments relating to machinery, engineering change, and operational activities.

Formal health and safety qualifications such as NEBOSH.
