Purpose

As an Audio Processing Engineer, you’ll play a critical part in maintaining and evolving Arqiva’s live audio platforms including DAB Digital Radio, FM, and AM distribution networks – while also helping to shape our future through innovation, cloud integration, and smarter customer delivery.

You’ll work in the Audio Operations team, providing 3rd line support and leading on the design, build, and delivery of high-performance audio systems. From integrating cutting-edge audio processing tools to contributing to national radio broadcast infrastructure, your work will have real, far-reaching impact.

Accountabilities

  • Support and optimise Arqiva’s live audio platforms FM, AM and DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting)
  • Design and implement new audio processing systems across broadcast and satellite communications
  • Lead the deployment of new audio technology from solution design through to implementation
  • Drive continuous improvement, documentation, and standardisation across audio systems
  • Act as the Design Authority on customer solutions and smaller projects
  • Work closely with product teams, network engineers, and field operations on integrated delivery
  • Monitor and introduce new innovations including audio cloud solutions and modern multiplexing
  • Oversee 3rd party contractors to ensure quality delivery that meets Arqiva standards
  • Support the integration of legacy systems into cloud-based infrastructure
  • Bring a commercial lens to decision-making helping manage budgets and maximise ROI

Skills

  • Audio Processing: Deep understanding of digital and analogue audio systems
  • Multiplexing: Proficient in encoding, multiplexing, and audio distribution technologies
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Skilled in using engineering tools and software to identify and resolve issues
  • Cloud Integration: Familiar with cloud-based platforms and hybrid infrastructure setups
  • Documentation & Standards: Experience documenting processes and maintaining technical standards
  • Project Delivery: Ability to lead or support projects across multiple workstreams
  • Collaboration & Communication: Able to work with cross-functional teams and convey complex info clearly
  • Continuous Improvement: Track record of driving innovation and refining system performance
  • Leadership: Confident taking ownership of technical decisions and mentoring junior colleagues
  • Budget Awareness: Understands the balance of cost, performance, and long-term value

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience working in an audio engineering or broadcast environment
  • Familiar with audio processing, multiplexing, and broadcast distribution
  • Knowledge of cloud-based technologies and system integrations
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and problem-solving in high-pressure scenarios
  • Previous involvement in managing external vendors or contractors
  • Experience with project tools and delivering technical solutions to deadlines
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is beneficial
