Job summary

Barratt Developments plc is seeking an experienced Civil/Infrastructure Design Engineer to lead the design and procurement of infrastructure packages for residential developments in Southampton. You will coordinate with external consulting engineers and internal teams to ensure value engineering, statutory compliance and timely adoption agreements.

The role offers a hybrid working model and opportunities to shape the built environment.

Qualifications

• Educated to HNC/HND level in an Engineering related discipline with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience.
• Experience in a design related environment, preferably with Civil or Structural Consulting Engineers.
• Ability to handle negotiations with external bodies such as sewerage undertakers and highway authorities.
• Coordinate with design team to meet programmes.
• Experience with Autodesk tools for drainage and infrastructure design is desirable.

• Oversee the design and detailing carried out by externally appointed Consulting Engineers for external works and adoption procedures.
• Secure adoption agreements (S38, S104, S278) in line with development programmes.
• Contribute input into structural designs for superstructure components.
• Maintain peer review of Consultant designs to ensure value engineering and statutory compliance.
• Liaise with Technical Team members to discharge building regulations and planning conditions.

Job description

The Design and Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation, this team is also responsible for researching the best materials, at the best cost.

In terms of design, there’s the sheer variety of our sites, many of them using existing buildings, and all of them with unique problems to solve. Then there’s the question of new materials and our drive for sustainability and value, all in the face of ever changing building and environmental legislation.

Most of the people in this team have an architectural or engineering background, and for all, we offer the opportunity to gain expertise in design and project management in a thought-provoking setting.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Technical Director, you will be responsiblefor overseeing the design of infrastructure and groundwork’s packages for residential developments.

You will be expected to:

• To procure services records and enquiries for new developments, including responsibility for timely payment for new services infrastructure to support build programmes.
• To oversee the design and detailing carried out by externally appointed Consulting Engineer’s responsible for providing designs for all external works including foundation solutions, new estate roads and sewers, including Section 38, 104 and S278 agreements.
• Secure adoption agreements; S38, S104 and S278 in a timely manner, to suit the development programme and ensuring bons are put in place, reduced and extinguished in a timely fashion.
• Have input into securing structural designs for superstructure components.
• To maintain a continuous process of evaluation / peer review of Consultant’s designs to ensure that proposals adhere to best practice in value Engineering and statutory compliance.
• Liaise with other Technical Team members and others as necessary to seek the discharge of building regulations and planning conditions.

To be successful in the role, we are looking for:

• Educated to HNC/HND level in an Engineering related discipline with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience.
• Previous experience in a design related environment, preferably with Civil or Structural Consulting Engineers
• Ability to confidently handle negotiations with external bodies, including sewerage undertakers and highway authorities
• Ability to co-ordinate with all members of the design team to ensure programmes are achieved
• Computer literate, experience of design software packages such as Autodesk product set. PDS or Mircodrainage experience desirable although not essential.
