Job summary

Spire Portsmouth Hospital is seeking a permanent maintenance engineer to join the engineering team. The role covers building services, plant and equipment, with responsibility for planned preventive maintenance, testing, and overseeing external contractors on site.

It includes out-of-hours on-call cover and fire-related duties, with 37.5 hours per week. The ideal candidate will have experience in building services management and hold relevant certificates or be willing to train in specialist

Qualifications

• Experience in building services management with a track record of success.
• Relevant certificates, or willingness to undertake specialist training in specific areas.
• Some mechanical, HVAC, water and electrical knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Use the CMMS to record and track maintenance activities.
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance on plant and equipment.
• Test plant and equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
• Ensure maintenance/testing complies with current HTMs.
• Record all maintenance information on the CMMS.
• Oversee external contractors on site per Spire policy.
• Assist Engineering Manager with specialist contractor services.
• Provide out-of-hours emergency on-call cover.
• Assist with fire drills and fire-related activity.
• Identify training and development needs with the hospital business plan.
• Complete mandatory training.

What the job involves

• Use the networked Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance and test plant and equipment
• Ensure maintenance and testing comply with current Health Technical Memorandums (HTM)
• Record all maintenance information on the CMMS
• Act as point of contact for external contractors and oversee them on site under Spire policy
• Assist the Engineering Manager with specialist contractor services for buildings, building services and equipment
• Provide out-of-hours emergency on-call cover
• Assist with fire drills and fire-related activity
• Identify personal training and development needs in line with the hospital business plan
• Complete all mandatory training
