Job description

Job: Engine Test Engineer (nights)

Location: Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire (Barton Under Needwood)

Duration: 3 months +

Hours (Nights): Monday to Thursday 15:30 pm till 01:00 am

The role will involve training on days for up to 2 months: 6 am - 4 pm Mon to Thurs, 6 am - 12 pm Friday

Own transport recommended due to location

Position Summary:

The testing and validation of Rail Engines, Transmission, Powerpacks and Cooler Groups. The role will require familiarity with the operation of diesel engines, electrical and electronic control systems.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
  1. Installation into the test cells and testing of production power products in line with work instructions
  2. To ensure that products meet the testing requirements
  3. Ensure recording of accurate data to guarantee traceability
  4. Ensure all documentation is up to date and accurately recorded
  5. Help develop testing requirements for future products
  6. Have the ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults
  7. Liaise with production when required on technical issues
  8. Liaise with colleagues and work as a team
  9. Mentor trainees/apprentices when applicable
  10. Collect failure data and provide feedback on failures to Engineering
  11. May be required to work overtime as and when required
  12. Adhere at all times to the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental instructions and requirements
  13. Take on any other reasonable responsibilities or tasks that are within the employee’s skills and abilities
  14. All test cells are computer controlled and therefore a reasonable level of computer competency is required.
Background & Experience:
  1. Intermediate/Advanced computer skills

Qualifications/Education Required:
  1. Engineering qualification or equivalent would be desirable but not essential
  2. Product training will be provided through mentoring
