Job summary

Financial Reporting Council Limited invites applications for a data protection lawyer to support the Enforcement Division. You will provide legal analysis on data management for complex regulatory investigations and help implement data protection policies across the division.

You will work with lawyers and IT specialists to ensure compliance with UK GDPR, DPA and FOIA, and engage with government bodies as needed. Hybrid role based in London or Birmingham, PQE 2–5 years.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor or barrister within England & Wales, with relevant practice experience.
• Proven experience advising on data protection laws (UK GDPR, DPA, FOIA) and related regulations.
• Experience in enforcement/investigation contexts, ideally within a regulator or prosecuting authority.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality legal advice and analysis on data management within complex regulatory investigations.
• Develop and implement Enforcement Division data management policy and ensure compliance with data protection laws.
• Demonstrate best practice in protecting personal, confidential and sensitive data.
• Support updates to policies and procedures on data management across workstreams.
• Draft practical guidance for enforcement case teams on data management and legislative changes.
• Collaborate with the Legal Services Team and IT experts as required.
• Engage with Government Departments, regulators and agencies on data management issues.
• Prepare and deliver training and presentations to Enforcement team members.
• Instruct specialist counsel for complex data management or risk questions.
