Job summary

SSEN Transmission seeks an Energy Technology Models and Markets Analyst to help develop future energy scenarios for the north of Scotland within national and global contexts. This role supports strategic planning and investment decisions.

You will gather data on energy users, generators and flexibility providers, develop energy technology archetype reports, and produce clear reports for stakeholders including government and regulators.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of energy technologies, economics, policy and GB energy markets.
  • Systematic, analytical approach with ability to conduct independent research.
  • Ability to engage with technical, financial and engineering specialists.
  • Experience building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Gather data and evidence on energy users, generators and flexibility providers and how policy and market factors impact SSEN Transmission.
  • Develop energy technology archetype reports and show interactions with grids and technologies.
  • Feed insights into network system plans and strategic decisions.
  • Maintain future energy scenarios for the north of Scotland within national/global contexts.
  • Produce clear reports and presentations for government, regulators and partners.

Base Location

Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary

£36,200 - £54,400 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

The Energy Technology Models and Markets Analyst plays a key role in our Energy Futures function, helping to develop future energy scenarios for the north of Scotland within national and global contexts. These scenarios provide critical input into SSEN Transmission’s strategic planning, business plans and wider strategy development.

You will
  • Gather data and evidence to understand how energy users, generators and flexibility providers behave, and how policy, industry, technology, market, national and global factors may impact supply, demand and SSEN Transmission.
  • Support the development of energy technology archetype reports, showing how different energy technologies interact with electricity grids and with each other.
  • Feed insights and findings into network system plans, investment judgements and strategic decision-making.
  • Support the development and maintenance of future energy scenarios for the north of Scotland, set within national and global contexts.
  • Produce clear, high-quality reports and presentations, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including government, regulators, consumer groups, network companies, supply chain partners and technology providers.
You have
  • A good understanding of energy technologies, economics, policy, commercial arrangements, GB energy networks and GB energy markets.
  • A systematic, disciplined and analytical approach, with the ability to conduct independent research and confidently question and explore topics outside your immediate field of expertise.
  • The confidence to engage with technical, financial and engineering specialists to gather relevant information and develop robust insight.
  • Experience building positive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners across public and private sectors.
  • Strong communication, numeracy and presentation skills, with curiosity, commitment, good work discipline and a willingness to learn.
