Job description

We’re looking for a passionate, empathetic, and experienced Social Worker to join our team to support both customers and colleagues. The role is primarily office-based to ensure support is available when needed.

Octopus works with a diverse range of customers with unique needs. Our energy specialists manage complex and often challenging conversations and situations daily.

We seek a qualified social worker with significant experience in a fast-paced environment, comfortable with the unknown, and approaching each situation with curiosity and empathy. The ideal candidate is approachable and eager to support our energy specialists, who in turn support our customers.

What you'll do:
  1. Work with customers with various needs, conducting assessments, support plans, and referring to local authorities when appropriate, ensuring safeguarding concerns are recognized.
  2. Conduct needs assessments, consider customers' ability to pay, and recommend the best course of action.
  3. Signpost customers to sources of help and proactively recommend support packages.
  4. Follow up with customers to ensure cases are resolved.
  5. Collaborate with other agencies and make relevant referrals.
  6. Stay updated with industry best practices and regulatory guidelines.
  7. Provide ongoing support to energy specialists.
  8. This position is office-based.
What you'll need:
  1. Registration with Social Work England.
  2. A Social Work degree with around 5 years’ post-qualifying experience.
  3. Completion of your ASYE.
  4. Experience in adult social care; experience in mental health is a bonus.
  5. Practice Educator qualification is a plus.
  6. Experience as an Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) is a plus.
  7. Confidence in applying social work skills in complex situations.
  8. A warm, collaborative approach to build trust and tailor support.
  9. Willingness to travel occasionally.
Why you'll love it here:
  • Salary: Discussed on call; we prioritize finding the right fit over fixed salary ranges.
  • Octopus Energy Group offers a unique culture emphasizing autonomy, innovation, and reward. Recognized as a top employer, we offer perks aligned with what our employees value.
