Job summary

Northern Powergrid Limited is seeking a Software Developer to join the Digital and Innovation Team. Design, build, test and ship features for new applications and APIs across a modern stack, including React/TypeScript front ends and .NET back ends.

The role includes contributing to mobile apps and embracing AI-assisted development to speed delivery. You will work in a regulated energy context, collaborating across Digital and Innovation to shape solutions and ensure high standards through code

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong automated testing mindset and willingness to test-first.
• Experience with web technologies and relational databases.
• Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows.
• Experience with AI-assisted development or strong interest in applying it responsibly.
• Clear written and spoken communication; collaborative approach.
• Experience with React and Typescript or .NET (C#).
• Experience with Docker/containers and a major cloud platform; API development.
• Experience building mobile apps (React Native) and working in regulated industries.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and ship features for new applications and APIs.
• Contribute to mobile applications for field teams using React Native.
• Practice test-driven development and CI/CD integration.
• Build and deploy containerised services to Azure (with AWS/OCI aspects).
• Develop and consume APIs to bring together business data.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate delivery and review code responsibly.
• Contribute to AI-assisted patterns for the team across coding, testing, and docs.
• Take part in code reviews and pairing to ensure quality and knowledge sharing.
• Represent the engineering view across Digital and Innovation with product teams.
