Job description

Energy Services Engineer

Location: Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester & Surrounding Areas
Salary: Competitive + Company Vehicle
Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
Working Hours: 40 Hours Per Week, Monday–Friday

Take ownership of your region and help keep essential infrastructure running.

Ground Control is expanding its regional maintenance and small works capability, and we're looking for an experienced, customer-focused engineer to join our Energy Solutions team, where you will be expected to cover across Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and surrounding areas.

If you enjoy solving technical challenges, working independently and seeing the results of your work, this is an opportunity to put your electrical expertise to good use while contributing to reliable, lower-carbon infrastructure.

Why this role?

Take ownership and work independently – You'll be trusted to manage your regional workload, plan your day and make practical decisions on site. It's an opportunity to take responsibility for your work, with the freedom to get the job done and the satisfaction of delivering results.

Enjoy variety and new challenges – No two days will be the same. You'll work across different sites, equipment and customer projects, combining maintenance, fault-finding and small works. You'll have the opportunity to apply your existing skills while continually learning and tackling new technical challenges.

Make a visible difference – Your expertise will help keep customer assets safe, operational and performing as they should. Whether you're resolving a fault or completing a customer project, you'll see the direct impact of your work and take pride in delivering a reliable service.

Build relationships and become a trusted expert – You'll work directly with customers and site contacts, using your technical knowledge and practical approach to solve problems. You'll have the satisfaction of becoming someone customers can rely on to deliver quality work and find solutions.

Develop your technical expertise – You'll gain exposure to EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy, water-efficiency measures and wider maintenance services. With training available, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your skills and develop your career within Ground Control's growing Energy Solutions division.

What you'll do:

You'll play a key role in maintaining customer assets and delivering smaller projects across your region, working independently across commercial, industrial and public-sector sites.

  • Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance, including inspections, testing, fault-finding, repairs and replacement of electrical equipment and EV charging infrastructure.
  • Deliver small works projects from start to finish, coordinating site surveys, materials, installations, specialist subcontractors and customer handovers.
  • Support a variety of additional works, including water-efficiency measures, water butt installations, minor civils and asset replacements where appropriately trained and competent.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, recommending remedial works and asset improvements, supporting quotations and escalating larger or higher-risk activities when required.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including job reports, test results, photographs, customer sign-offs and relevant safety information.
  • Build positive customer relationships, communicating effectively with site contacts and internal teams while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and service.

You may also participate in an agreed call-out or emergency-response rota if introduced for your region.

What we're looking for:

We're looking for a capable electrical engineer who takes pride in delivering quality work, enjoys solving problems and can confidently manage their workload with minimal supervision.

Essential:
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382) and City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing, or equivalent qualifications.
  • NICEIC Certification or an appropriate and valid ECS or CSCS card.
  • Proven experience in electrical inspection, testing, fault diagnosis, repairs and remedial works, with the ability to deliver small projects and coordinate materials.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Confident communication and a customer-focused approach, with the ability to build positive relationships and make sound decisions on site.
  • A full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel across your region and stay overnight occasionally.
  • An Emergency First Aid qualification, or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable, but not essential:
  • Experience maintaining and repairing AC/DC EV charging infrastructure, including connectivity and communications diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of solar PV, air source heat pumps or other renewable technologies.
  • Experience in minor civils, water management, building services or infrastructure works.
  • Working at Height, HAVS awareness, SSSTS or similar training.
  • Experience supporting multi-site commercial, utility, local-authority or public-sector customers.

Previous EV or renewable energy experience isn't essential. We're keen to hear from suitably qualified electricians looking to broaden their technical experience and develop their skills across a growing range of services.

Why Ground Control?

At Ground Control, we're proud to deliver work that improves environments, supports critical infrastructure and contributes to a greener future. Our Energy Solutions team plays an important role in delivering practical infrastructure and lower-carbon solutions across the UK.

As a Regional Maintenance & Small Works Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work, contribute to essential customer services and develop your technical expertise across a growing range of technologies.

You'll be part of a supportive team where your practical knowledge, independence and commitment to delivering quality work are recognised and valued.

If you're looking for a varied, hands-on role where you can take responsibility, solve challenges and make a meaningful contribution, we'd love to hear from you.

Benefits:
  • Company vehicle, tools and equipment – providing the resources you need to carry out your role.
  • Overtime and call-out arrangements – where applicable, in line with the agreed package.
  • Life assurance – providing financial protection and peace of mind for you and your loved ones.
  • Recognition schemes – celebrating your contribution and rewarding great work.
  • Pension scheme – helping you save and plan for your future.
  • Holiday buy scheme – giving you the flexibility to purchase up to 5 additional days of annual leave.
  • 24/7 GP service – fast, convenient access to medical advice and support when you need it.
  • Subsidised gym membership – helping you prioritise your health and wellbeing.
