Job Description:

Energy Property Senior Associates (8 + years PQE)

Location: Scotland

Contract Type: Permanent

Brief

We are currently looking to recruit Property Lawyers to join the Energy Property and Infrastructure subteam within our Development & Investment team, part of our UK National Property Group. This person can be based at any of our Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Glasgow offices. We are ideally looking to recruit candidates with upwards of 8 years’ PQE who are admitted and qualified in Scotland and have experience of the property aspects of energy and/or infrastructure projects.

About the Team

We boast one of the largest groups of property lawyers in the UK who are dedicated to supporting the Energy & Infrastructure Sectors, including many renowned experts. Clients praise us for our sector knowledge, commercial approach, providing clear, relevant and timely advice.

Our depth and breadth of experience coupled with our specialist knowledge means that whether we are advising on a major offshore wind farm or a portfolio of EV charging stations, our clients receive the legal support they require, when and how they want it.

Sector insight is absolutely central to the way we work. In the energy sector our clients include the landowners, developers, funders and investors involved in all energy technologies and all sizes and shapes of projects. In the infrastructure sector, our work has included major road and rail projects for Transport for London and Highways England

Work Highlights

  • Advising bp Aberdeen Hydrogen Limited (a joint venture between bp International Limited and Aberdeen City Council) on the property aspects of their green hydrogen project comprising a facility for the production, storage and distribution of green hydrogen powered by a ground mounted solar farm located nearby.
  • Advising multiple Scotwind projects in respect of all onshore and offshore property arrangements.
  • Advising Statkraft in relation to its pipeline of onshore wind developments and its acquisition of a pumped storage hydro project in Loch Ness in Scotland.
  • Advising Capital Dynamics on their acquisition of Longhill, Sorbie, Pines Burn, Garbet and Douglas West Extension wind farms in Scotland.
  • Advising KfW in relation to the project financing and refinancing by Community Wind Power of various wind farms in Scotland (including Aikengall, Sanquhar, Calder Water and Millour Hill Wind Farms).
  • Advising Zenobe on Europe’s largest battery storage financing of 500MW of projects in Scotland.

The Candidates Required

The successful candidates will be Scottish qualified and will have many years’ experience in property work on energy and infrastructure projects with a large regional or national practice.

They will have a strong academic background and an outgoing personality. Candidates must also be technically excellent but equally important, commercially aware and enthusiastic about, and demonstrate a track record of, business development. They will be a team player with a strong client focussed approach.

Lawyers joining this friendly and dynamic UK-wide team will encounter a broad range of energy and infrastructure property work, acting for a range of high-profile clients on large and nationally significant energy and infrastructure transactions. In particular the successful candidate will work on wind (on and offshore), solar, hydrogen, carbon capture, battery storage and nuclear transactions in the energy sphere and road, rail and ports and other major infrastructure projects, acting for a mix of clients, including public authorities, developers, investors, funders and utility companies. Whilst the successful candidates will sit within the specialist Energy Property subteam within our Development & Investment team (which is part of our UK national Property Group), they will also have close links to our global, multi-disciplinary sector teams, energy and infrastructure being two of our Global Sectors.

Please note that if you are NOT a passport holder of the country for the vacancy you might need a work permit. Check our Blog for more information.
