Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Programme Manager for our Energy Networks portfolio in the UK. The role focuses on delivering a diverse set of engineering and design projects for National Grid, with emphasis on delivery strategies, governance, and robust controls.

The position is described as part-time (around three days per week) and may include other leadership responsibilities such as Project Principal or Bid Director depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in programme, portfolio and/or project management within the transmission and distribution sector.
• Demonstrable experience delivering FEED, detailed design or engineering consultancy projects.
• Strong understanding of project controls, portfolio management, resource planning and delivery governance.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Degree qualified in Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline.
• Professional qualification in Project Management and/or Engineering.
• Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project financial performance and governance.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder environments.
• Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to coach, mentor and develop project teams.

Responsibilities

• Support Portfolio Manager in developing and maintaining a strategically aligned delivery programme across the National Grid portfolio.
• Ensure robust project controls, risk management and reporting processes across the portfolio.
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery efficiency, consistency and commercial performance across projects.
• Coach and mentor Project Managers and Project Principals, promoting best-practice in delivery and governance.
• Foster strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders to support success.
