Our client, a publicly owned central purchasing body, is looking for an Energy Portfolio Trader to join their team. In this role, you will oversee and enhance the company’s aggregated energy portfolio, execute trades within risk and credit limits while ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and procurement regulations. Your key responsibilities will include monitoring energy markets, managing hedging processes, executing trades, and supporting public sector customers. You will also develop trading strategies, maintain performance platforms, and ensure accurate portfolio reporting. Key responsibilities:

  1. Act as the primary energy trader, executing transactions for the portfolio
  2. Monitor energy markets through various sources and platforms
  3. Ensure first-line reaction to opportunities to secure energy (gas and power) for the portfolio
  4. Develop and manage hedging processes to meet client’s energy needs
  5. Establish and maintain a platform for tracking and reporting trading performance
  6. Ensure the company's flexible energy contract strategy remains relevant
  7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain accurate portfolio data
  8. Represent the company in meetings with risk management providers and energy suppliers
  9. Ensure procurement frameworks used for supplier selection remain up to date
  10. Support supplier management to uphold framework procurement requirements

Skills and experience required:

  1. 3 years of experience in a similar role within energy supply, consultancy or a purchasing body
  2. Experience in advanced hedging strategies – they work on 3 years in advance
  3. Proven expertise in trading and risk management
  4. Strong understanding of flexible energy contracts
  5. Ability to plan purchases in line with trading strategy, forecasting and price fluctuations
  6. Experience working with or understanding public sector customers (preferred)
  7. Highly organised with strong attention to detail
