Job description

Kingston University London is seeking to recruit an Energy Manager to develop the University’s energy strategy and lead on operational energy management and energy projects.

The Estates and Sustainability directorate exists to support Kingston University’s academic mission and the goals set out in its strategic plan. It leads on strategic planning, capital development, space management, operational sustainability, energy management and biodiversity management as well as statutory compliance and operation of the campuses and premises used by the university. It provides direction for the operation, facilities maintenance, and management of the estate by KUSCO – a wholly owned subsidiary of the University.

We aim to achieve the highest practicable standards of energy efficiency throughout the University’s estate and seek to ensure operational energy costs are minimised. We lead development and implementation of decarbonisation plans as well as actively contributing to the net zero carbon agenda. In all activity we implement sustainable practice through our choice of methods, materials, and technology.

The Energy Manager provides University leadership in the operational control of energy management across the University with a primary focus on reducing CO2 emissions while ensuring that the organisation remains compliant with its statutory obligations and best practice in this regard. This role will lead and manage the University’s Utilities budget in the region of £5m and is responsible to forecast budget and report expenditure on gas, electricity, and water across all university premises.

The role holder will work collaboratively with all Estates and Sustainability colleagues on matters of common interest concerning the estate and operational energy management improvements and plans.

The successful candidate will have strong track record in energy and utilities management, with technical skills and appreciation of the technology (including renewable energy technologies) of engineering services within buildings. We are seeking an individual that will thrive on developing and implementing energy management and carbon reduction strategies across a diverse and complex estate and buildings portfolio.
