Job summary

Carey Group is seeking a Site Engineer to lead on-site engineering activities for a major Energy from Waste project in Middlesbrough. You will set out using total stations, GPS and laser levels, manage drawings and materials, and supervise junior staff to ensure safety and compliance.

The role requires ~4 years of civil/energy project experience, proficiency in AutoCAD/BricsCAD, and strong communication skills. A strong health & safety focus is essential for day‑to‑day field delivery.

Qualifications

• HNC (or above) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Around 4 years’ experience on major civil, energy & infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of surveying, setting out, and engineering principles.
• Skilled in interpreting drawings, technical reports, and specifications.
• Competent with digital tools such as AutoCAD/BricsCAD, Word, Excel, and document control systems.
• Experience in inspecting and testing construction materials.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong awareness of Health & Safety, safe systems of work, and common site regulations.

Responsibilities

• Setting out and providing precise dimensional control using surveying equipment.
• Checking accuracy on site and ensuring works meet specification.
• Identifying additional works and supporting commercial processes.
• Interpreting drawings, coordinating construction information, and raising RFIs.
• Managing and updating drawings, specs, and as‑built information.
• Supervising junior engineers, operatives and subcontractors to deliver works safely.
• Implementing quality procedures, preparing ITPs, inspections, and NCRs.
• Supporting environmental compliance and site environmental plans.
• Monitoring progress, assisting with short‑term planning, and preparing material take‑offs.
• Assisting with temporary works design and risk assessments.
