Overview of the independent end-point assessor role:
The Government requires all apprenticeships to include an end-point assessment (EPA), which is a holistic evaluation of the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) learned throughout the apprenticeship. This ensures apprentices meet employer standards and are fully competent. Pearson provides employers with confidence that completing an apprenticeship signifies being job-ready and that assessments are consistent across all apprenticeships.
An independent EPA means that assessors have no conflict of interest and are impartial in their judgment. They must be independent of the training provider and not involved in the apprentice's on-programme training or assessment.
EPAs are conducted onsite on dates agreed with employers or providers. Assessors record and submit outcomes with clear justifications, and Pearson quality assures these assessments.
Assessors are qualified, trained, and approved to operate as IEAs, undertaking assessments in line with the apprenticeship assessment plan and Pearson materials. Please see the Key Accountabilities and Person Specification sections below for more details.
