Job summary

Cover People is seeking a reliable Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEND in a Salford school. You will work closely with teachers to help pupils access the secondary curriculum, participate in school life and build confidence.

Responsibilities include one-to-one or small-group support, adapting activities for different needs, monitoring engagement and sharing observations with teachers. A safeguarding mindset, DBS check and commitment to inclusion are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Calm and flexible approach to supporting behaviour and engagement.
• Ability to encourage independence while providing appropriate guidance.
• Confidence working with teachers and other professionals.
• Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and pupil wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Providing one-to-one and small-group assistance during lessons.
• Helping pupils understand instructions and work towards individual learning goals.
• Adapting learning activities to suit different abilities and needs.
• Supporting pupils with autism, learning difficulties and communication needs.
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
• Promoting appropriate behaviour and helping pupils manage transitions throughout the school day.
• Reinforcing classroom routines and supporting emotional regulation.
• Delivering targeted learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff.
• Following individual support plans and agreed strategies.
• Monitoring engagement and sharing observations with teachers.
• Helping maintain a safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment.
• Assisting with personal care where required and in line with individual care plans.
