Job summary

Dumfries and Galloway Council is recruiting a Learning Assistant for Lochmaben Primary School Learning Centre, Lockerbie. The role is 21.5 hours per week, term time over 39 weeks, with a fixed term until the end of the session. The pattern is Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Secondments may be considered. The successful candidate will support children with additional needs, build relationships, and help them access lessons in learning centres or mainstream classes.

Qualifications

• Candidates should be caring, supportive and committed to helping children with additional support needs.
• Experience with children or young people is advantageous.
• Induction and professional development opportunities will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Support children in lessons and help them participate in activities.
• Encourage independence, including personal care when needed, and help children make friends.
• Help ensure children feel safe, happy and ready to learn in Learning Centres or mainstream classes.
