Every day, our teams help people in businesses and communities to do what is right and achieve their goals.

Employment Tax is an important building block for any business. We support businesses and employees with a practical and pragmatic perspective—making their approach to expenses more efficient, training them on how to embed new rules such as IR35, proposing pragmatic solutions when compliance falls short, answering queries on how to best reward and tax benefits and payments provided to employees, and introducing new or updated salary sacrifice employee benefit schemes.

We are looking for an experienced Manager to join our successful and expanding national Employment Tax team, with ample opportunities for growth. The role offers full-time or flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options.

A look into the role

As an experienced Manager within our Employment Tax team, you will:

  1. Advise our diverse client base on various employment tax issues, including PAYE and NIC operations on payments, expenses, and benefits provided to employees, as well as establishing employment status (including IR35).
  2. Help employers achieve cost savings through more effective pay and benefits reward structures.
  3. Manage Employment Tax compliance and mitigate risks, including year-end reporting, NMW, and holiday pay.
  4. Assist with Employment Tax reviews, whether as part of due diligence, health checks, SAO, or standalone projects.
  5. Play an integral role in the Employment Tax and wider Employer Solutions group, working on interesting projects for a variety of clients.
  6. Build the reputation of the Employment Tax team and Grant Thornton through high-quality work.

Knowing you’re right for us

The minimum criteria for joining as a Manager in Employment Tax/Employer Solutions are:

  • ACA/ACCA/CTA qualified or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills and project leadership ability
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Employment Tax

Preferred skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Current knowledge of UK tax legislation, including PAYE, NIC, IR35, and awareness of recent Budget and HMRC consultations
  • A well-thought-out approach to complex problems, with sound judgment and research, and the ability to communicate with empathy and impact
  • A tenacious spirit, taking personal responsibility, and enthusiasm for pursuing business opportunities and team development
  • Enthusiasm for leveraging technology to increase efficiency and client opportunities
  • Ability to analyze client problems, synthesize information, and communicate clearly and consistently

Knowing we’re right for you

We value the contributions of all our people and foster an inclusive culture that respects differences and helps everyone perform at their best and realize their potential.

Our open culture encourages interaction with leaders interested in your growth and values your unique qualities. We support bringing your whole self to work and pursuing passions both inside and outside of work.

Beyond the job

We recognize that life extends beyond work. We offer flexible working options and aim to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

The impact you make here can extend beyond your daily tasks—from secondments and fundraising to supporting entrepreneurs in developing countries. Our drive to do the right thing aligns with our CLEARR values—Collaboration, Leadership, Excellence, Agility, Respect, and Responsibility.

We seek individuals eager to contribute, innovate, and exceed expectations—those committed to doing what’s right for the firm, clients, colleagues, and themselves.
