Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated lawyer to join our experienced legal team.

We welcome applications from experienced senior practitioners as well as those working towards legal qualifications.

This is a Career Grade Role that offers opportunities for those with experience and qualifications or those still training. The level at which you join will reflect your current skills.

Depending on your experience and qualifications, you will join at grade 9, 10, or 11. You will be supported to progress through the grades with the aim of reaching Grade 11 as a senior lawyer. Specific experience and qualification requirements for each grade are detailed in the attached job descriptions.

You will primarily provide advice and support to the Council’s Human Resources, equalities, and information governance teams. Additionally, as part of the litigation team, especially in the equalities area, you will advise on issues arising in housing and prosecutions.

You will be part of a team providing legal advice on varied employment, information governance, and equality issues, reflecting the diverse employee roles within the council.

You will also support straightforward civil and criminal matters within the wider litigation team.

This role is aligned with the Council Plan and involves being at the forefront of change.

If you are an ambitious, innovative solicitor, barrister, or CILEX fellow (authorized to undertake reserved legal activities), or are working towards these qualifications, and have an interest and experience in civil/criminal litigation, employment, or equality law, this role could be your next career move.

This position is suitable for job sharing.

Hybrid working arrangements are available, with specific working arrangements determined based on role requirements and individual needs during the recruitment process. The contractual location will be the designated council office.

Note: We do not sponsor visas; therefore, we cannot offer sponsorship for this role.

The Council offers a generous annual leave, the Local Government Pension Scheme, health and wellbeing initiatives, flexible working, community engagement, continuous learning opportunities, and various discounts and rewards.
