We have an exciting opportunity in the Salisbury area for a full-time Employment Coordinator / Job Coach to join our Wiltshire Employment Support Team (WEST).

WEST empowers individuals to find meaningful employment and participate economically while reducing dependence on support services. We are dedicated to promoting diversity in the workforce by collaborating closely with local employers. The team is part of the wider Employment and Community Skills Team, which has an established pathway to work for young people with SEND.

As an Employment Coordinator, you'll be at the forefront of transforming lives. Working in a highly motivated team, you'll guide individuals with SEND to secure and maintain paid employment, while also providing vital support to their families and networks. Your responsibilities will include; undertaking travel training to enable customers to independently travel to their place of work and providing appropriate job coaching support to customers who have achieved paid employment. You will explore employment opportunities for people with disabilities and work with employers in Wiltshire to negotiate paid employment opportunities.

Job responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Manage and be responsible for a caseload of up to 35 customers.
  • Provide support into employment and on-the-job support to ensure job retention for young people and adults with SEND and disabilities, including physical impairment, sensory impairment, neurological, learning disabilities, and autistic spectrum condition.
  • Support each customer by working with them and keeping all relevant monitoring records up to date. Maintain customer confidentiality.
  • Identify employment/work opportunities in customers' preferred fields with local employers within their community.
  • Work with each customer to produce a vocational profile, identifying skills, experience, current needs, and relevant support networks, leading to an action plan with development opportunities that lead to employment.
  • Proactively establish contact with employers to promote the service and employment opportunities for customers.
  • Work with employers to meet their recruitment needs and support all parties, including identifying tasks that may or may not be part of the job and facilitating employment.
  • Conduct 'Preparing for Employment' sessions in special schools across Wiltshire to support young people (post 16) in their transition from education to employment, including preparation time and evaluation.
  • Keep effective digital (paperless) records in line with procedures and data protection regulations.
  • Input data onto CareFirst relating to each customer on caseload.
  • Facilitate planning and delivery of travel training for customers to access their workplace using modes like bus, train, walking, or cycling.
  • Monitor and evaluate customer progress, develop action plans for employment or career progression, and review them regularly. Signpost to other services as needed.
  • Identify potential difficulties for customers and plan to assist learning and development.
  • Maintain administrative procedures and complete all required paperwork and systems, including tracking outcomes and gathering evidence.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, data security, and privacy regulations.
  • Handle unforeseen issues at the workplace, seeking advice from support services as necessary.
  • Attend internal and external events, workshops, and meetings, representing Wiltshire Council and reporting back to senior officers.
  • Participate in meetings such as Team Around the Child (TAC), My Plan, Transitions, and reviews, including assessments, signposting, advising, and developing plans.
  • Work efficiently and cost-effectively, producing reports using systems and methods outlined in team procedures.
  • Engage in staff development and continuous professional development.
  • Work flexibly according to the council's policies and participate in supervision and appraisal sessions.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the post.
