Job description

A community of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds in Queen Edith’s, gathering to worship God, growing by the work of the Holy Spirit and going to witness to Jesus

Are you called to lead an evangelism-focused revitalisation of an established church? Are you called to reach the under 50s and help them become part of a church family? Are you called to do so in a suburban, multi-faith, multi-ethnic, transient community of differing academic and social backgrounds?

Queen Edith Chapel, an independent evangelical church in south Cambridge, is seeking to recruit an evangelist to serve as an employed elder, working as part of and alongside our volunteer elders, to help fulfil our vision for a Christian community ‘gathering, growing and going’ in Queen Edith’s. The elders are supported by a group of trustees who look after practical matters and compliance with legal obligations. Some responsibilities are carried out by other paid staff, a Youth Worker and Children and Families worker.

Purpose of the role

Co-lead QEC in fulfilling God's vision for us with a particular focus on evangelism and outreach, and helping people become part of the QEC family.

What you will be doing

Working together, the elders are responsible and have authority for the spiritual leadership of the church including: the vision and direction of the church, pastoral care and discipline, worship and prayer, teaching and discipleship, and outreach and evangelism.

You will have particular responsibility for evangelism where you will lead and practise evangelism and outreach, developing opportunities for adults to explore the Christian faith, and equipping and encouraging others in the fellowship in evangelism.

You will also lead on congregation building and community, helping newcomers become active congregants and building relationships within the fellowship and with the local community leading to a thriving, welcoming and connected congregation of all ages.

As part of your leadership ministry, working with the other elders, you will recruit, train and support staff and volunteers and help church members develop their gifts in fulfilling the church vision. You will contribute to Sunday service leading and preaching as appropriate and represent the church at external events.

Who you are

You are a mature Christian with a heart for evangelism, discipleship and church growth who meets the biblical qualifications for Eldership set out in 1 Tim 3:1-7 and Titus 1.5-9 and demonstrates the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. You are an excellent communicator and leader who is relational and able to network well, and a person of prayer, leading others by example in God dependence and empowerment.

You have a proven track record as an evangelist and leader, leading people to faith, helping newcomers become part of a church family, building relationships and leading and growing individuals and teams, developing their spiritual gifts.

There is an occupational requirement that the post-holder is a Christian. An enhanced DBS check will be required.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have an existing right to work in the UK.
