Job summary

Our client is an innovative technology business developing advanced sensing and analytics solutions that are helping organisations better understand, monitor and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Emissions Data Scientist role in Bristol offers hybrid working and 50,000–55,000 GBP with benefits. You will analyse complex datasets from advanced sensing systems, develop scientifically robust methods, and quantify industrial emissions to influence operational and environmental decisions.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or another highly quantitative discipline.
  • Commercial experience within emissions measurement, atmospheric science, environmental monitoring or a similar scientific field.
  • Strong understanding of greenhouse gas measurement, atmospheric transport, dispersion modelling or environmental data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex real-world datasets.
  • Strong Python skills for scientific analysis (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy or similar).
  • Experience communicating technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across software, engineering and scientific teams.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse environmental and operational datasets to detect, interpret and quantify emission sources.
  • Interpret results considering atmospheric conditions, meteorology, site operations and measurement uncertainty.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports, translating complex scientific findings into clear customer insight.
  • Develop and improve emissions quantification methodologies, validation processes and analytical models.
  • Design and evaluate controlled trials, validation studies and field experiments.
  • Assess uncertainty, detection limits and confidence levels to ensure scientifically defensible conclusions.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and data scientists to develop analytical tools and production-ready scientific methods.
  • Support the scientific design of monitoring campaigns and customer deployments.
  • Work alongside customers and technical stakeholders to understand operational challenges and measurement objectives.
  • Contribute towards scientific publications, technical papers and industry best practice.
  • Stay current with developments across atmospheric science, methane measurement and environmental monitoring.
