Job summary

National Physical Laboratory (NPL) seeks an Associate Vulnerability Researcher in Telecommunications to help build the UK’s capability to understand and secure telecom systems. You will work in a skilled team, growing your technical depth while tackling meaningful security challenges.

Designed for early-career researchers, the role offers guidance from experienced colleagues, exposure to carrier-grade infrastructure, and opportunities to prototype tools such as fuzzers and SDR interfaces.

Qualifications

• Foundational software, systems, and networking knowledge.
• Familiarity with at least one programming language; willingness to learn more.
• Interest in vulnerabilities and common classes such as memory corruption.
• Awareness of core security concepts (ASLR, NX, stack protections).
• Working knowledge of Linux environments and internals.

Responsibilities

• Analyse vulnerability using hands-on investigations to improve telecom resilience.
• Contribute to analysis of carrier-grade telecom infrastructure and identify weaknesses.
• Work within broad research themes and adapt to new findings and methods.
• Collaborate with experts and stakeholders across academia, industry, and government.
