Job description

We are currently advertising for 2 roles within our Emerging Talent team to join our busy and growing People department. The Emerging Talent team is part of our wider Resourcing function and brilliant People Team based primarily from the firm's head office in Nottingham. The team are tasked with attracting, selecting, and onboarding a high-quality pipeline of talent who wish to qualify as a solicitor, but that's only half the story. The team are also responsible for ensuring that those selected onto the firms Emerging Talent programmes are supported all the way through to qualification. The work the team do is crucial in ensuring the firm has the right talent, with the right skills, in the right volume, at the right time to enable it to successfully deliver against it its strategic growth ambitions. With that in mind, we are advertising for both a Emerging Talent Advisor - Recruitment who specialises within the attraction, selection and recruitment of early careers talent throughout the business and an Emerging Talent Advisor - Programmes who is focusing on the programme side of Emerging Talent which consists of offering support in matters surrounding the design, development and implementation of our various programmes including the Trainee Solicitor Pathway, Summer Vacation Scheme and Apprenticeships. Please note, that we reserve the right to withdraw either of these roles at any time. We plan to recruit for only 1 of these roles, however, would like to explore the candidate market for both an Emerging Talent Advisor - Recruitment and an Emerging Talent Advisor - Programme to understand the calibre of candidate within these spaces. We may also decide to merge the roles if we feel it is necessary however, we will be sure to inform candidates throughout the process of how we see the function progressing. What does the role actually involve?

  • Work closely with the Emerging Talent Manager on the design and implementation of emerging talent programmes including the Trainee Solicitor Pathway, Summer Vacation Scheme, and Apprenticeships.
  • Support the continual evolution of the firm's emerging talent attraction and selection strategy.
  • Implement programme structures with the Emerging Talent Manager, People Business Partners, and People Advisors to meet the needs of individual departments and trainees.
  • Create and deliver an effective communication strategy with the Emerging Talent Manager.
  • Ensure programme participants are technically and behaviourally prepared.
  • Provide ongoing pastoral support and guidance to participants, fostering a supportive environment that encourages professional growth and well-being.
  • Partner with the DEI and Social Mobility teams to ensure fair and equitable processes.
  • Attend careers events to promote the emerging talent programmes.
  • Manage external relationships with universities, law schools, and apprenticeship providers., Please note - due to the outward facing nature of the work involved in this role, there will be a requirement to regularly participate in external events which may take place in the evenings at locations right across the UK (which may require overnight stays). Travel, accommodation, and evening meals are provided through the firms travel company to ensure the role holder is not exposed to business expenses.

    What skills and understanding would see someone be successful and enjoy the role?
  • Exposure to (and a good understanding of) graduate and apprenticeship programmes ideally within the legal profession, but it is not a deal breaker
  • A sound understanding of the technical aspects that make up a training contract, the Solicitor Qualification Exams (SQE) and Solicitor Apprenticeship programmes
  • The ability to spin multiple plates, at pace, and remain organised and structured
  • Warm, inclusive communication skills
  • Confident when engaging a broad range of stakeholders, able to be vulnerable and transparent to build strong and authentic two-way working relationships
  • Uses data and insight to make informed decisions and suggest improvements.
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines - knows what it takes to get the job done as a team
  • A passion and empathy for the development of emerging talent and contributing to their professional development
  • Aware of the inter-generational workplace environment and the broader topics which influence emerging talent programme development.
