Emergency Practitioner

This role is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are part‑time, 36 hours per week.
We are seeking an experienced and self‑directed Emergency Practitioner with a passion for patient care and a commitment to the values of our Trust. The postholder will join a highly skilled team of autonomous Emergency Practitioners providing evidence‑based clinical care in our Practitioner‑Led Unit.
North Cotswold Hospital has a dedicated Minor Injury and Illness Unit (MIiU) open 7 days a week. The successful candidate will be required to cover a full range of shifts from 08:00 to 20:00.
Essential requirements
- Relevant professional registration and clinical experience in MIiU or ED.
Our unit offers a diverse range of training opportunities, including preceptor‑led induction and ongoing professional development.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
- Provide advanced, skilled, effective, evidence‑based health care.
- Ensure patients are seen in priority order, utilising Manchester triage assessment.
- Use advanced, specialist skills to undertake a thorough history, physical examination, clinical decision making and safe treatment plan.
- Utilise advanced skills in X‑ray request and interpretation to safely manage patients presenting with fractures.
- Provide safe service for all age groups, including children and babies.
- Safely discharge patients, taking into account physical and social factors.
- Offer advice in health promotion and disease prevention and empower patients to self‑care where possible.
- Undertake non‑medical prescribing where qualified, or utilise extensive PGDs when appropriate.
- Work in partnership with the wider urgent care team, acute trusts, SWAST, OOH, social services, local GP practices and ICT.
- Adopt an innovative approach to practice, acting as a change agent and facilitating change processes.
- Refer to local services and resources effectively to promote care.
- Provide and receive sensitive complex information and maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Relevant post‑registration qualification (e.g., Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Care Practitioner).
- Experience with minor injury/illness in children or willingness to undertake within 18 months (unless Trust prohibits).
- Non‑medical X‑ray referral skill and up‑to‑date calrad/irmer.
- Evidence of extended clinical skills relevant to level of practice.
Professional / Managerial / Specialist Knowledge
- Evidence of recent clinical experience and use of Patient Group Directions.

Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per annum (pro rata).
