Job overview

Do you have a clinical skills qualification, experience of working within an A&E, urgent treatment unit or minor injuries unit?

We have a vacancy for an Emergency Nurse Practitioner working in Minor Injuries Unit within Berwick Infirmary Community Hospital. This is a Nurse led unit with daily support from our local GP practice. The development within this role aims for the practitioner to be autonomous in their practice.

There would be an opportunity to upgrade to B7 following successful completion on competencies including non-medical prescribing.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide autonomous care in the diagnosis, treatment, and the discharge of patients attending the minor injury unit with minor injuries and illnesses within agreed trust protocols.
  • To support the department manager in the effective management of resources. To assume responsibility for the devolved management the minor injury unit in the absence of the department manager.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To develop the skills required to provide advanced clinical assessment of patients
  • To triage patients, prioritising clinical need, highlighting and initiating treatment plans by following agreed Trust guidelines and protocols whilst under supervision
  • To develop the skills to work autonomously, assessing individual patient needs, initiating investigations, determining a differential diagnosis and initiating appropriate holistic, evidence based treatment and care
  • To provide senior nursing support on operational issues
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
Person specification
Qualifications
  • 1st Level Live NMC Registered Nurse
  • Recognised teaching qualification e.g. PP126/127
  • Mandatory training as required by the trust
  • Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
  • Diploma / degree in nursing
  • IR(ME)R training
