Job summary

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust is recruiting an Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Paramedic Care Practitioner for the Cheshunt Minor Injuries Unit. This permanent, full-time post (Band 7) requires an autonomous clinician with passion for patient care and experience in MIU/A&E settings.

The role offers a supportive team, a 4-week rota, and a 37.5 hour week. The successful applicant will provide advanced clinical assessment and treatment within approved pathways, with supervision to develop

Qualifications

• Post registration experience in A&E, UTC, MIU or equivalent
• Good knowledge of NMC/HCPC codes
• Ability to interpret clinical data and imaging where relevant
• Excellent wound management and patient assessment
• Awareness of NICE guidelines and clinical pathways
• Medicines management experience
• Ability to manage patient flow and triage in a minor injuries setting
• Experience in staff development and peer review
• Experience in handling complaints and escalation
• Rota management and appraisal coordination

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced autonomous clinical practice to assess, diagnose, treat and refer patients within approved pathways
• Deliver care within the Minor Injuries Service and ensure patient safety
• Work toward advancing nurse/care practitioner competencies with clinical supervision
• Interpret X-ray interpretations and follow IRMER regulations where applicable
• Operate within a small team, promoting a supportive and innovative culture

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide advanced levels of autonomous clinical practices to assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and/or refer patients by acting within the parameters of approved pathways and Trust guidelines .

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the delivery of health care to patients within the Minor Injuries Service.

To work towards fulfilling the expectations, core capabilities and competencies of an advanced nurse/ care practitioner. This will be achieved through workplace-based assessments in clinical practice, with a named clinical supervisor, and clinical supervision in own or similar service/speciality area

• The post holder will be expected to interpretate x-ray images and follow agreed treatment pathways and complete three yearly IRMER (I onising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations).
• The candidate should have at least three years’ experience working in an accident and emergency department, urgent treatment center, walk in center or general practice, with a keen interest and/or experience in the assessment and treatment of minor injuries .

Qualifications and Training

• Registered Nurse (NMC)/ Registered Paramedic (HCPC)
• Autonomous Nurse/Care Practitioner Training. A33 , accredited university Minor Injuries Course or equivalent
• Independent non-medical prescriber
• Mentorship, teaching and assessing course or equivalent
• Training in safeguarding children and adults
• Up to date with IRMER training
• Inclusion and diversity training to include Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA
• Evidence in further x-ray interpretation training e.g. Red Dot study

Experience and Knowledge

• Post registration experience in A&E, UTC, MIU or equivalent
• Is aware off and follows the professional codes; NMC / HCPC
• Good knowledge of anatomy and physiology
• Good knowledge of wound management and wound healing
• Knowledge and experience in following clinical pathways and with the NICE guidelines.
• Have knowledge and experience in medicines management
• Ability to organize the swift flow of patients through the unit safely and effectively
• Identifies and manages potential risks and incidents
• Reports any faults and maintenance issues promptly to the appropriate persons
• Ability to identify staff development needs and conduct peer reviews
• Has experience in managing complaints
• Ability to manage the staff Rota and roster management
• Able to monitor and training needs of peers and appraisal management

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrates expert clinical decision-making skills in the assessment, examination and treatment or referral of patients attending the unit.
• Has a good knowledge and is able to demonstrate good record management skills
• Has the ability to work autonomously to meet individual care needs of patients from the age of 1 year old
• Provide evidence of continuous personal and professional development
• Have knowledge of current professional matters in relation to nursing and the NHS
• Has a high standard of written and computer skills e.g. word, excel and email
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients from varied social and cultural backgrounds.
• The ability to work well within a small team.
• Have good listening and verbal skills and able to communicate well with children
• Ability to recognize and report any safeguarding concerns that may be suspected in both children and adults
• Has experience with smartcard usage
