Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Locally Employed Doctor (ST3) to join the Emergency Medicine Department at Musgrove Park Hospital in a fixed-term post until 3 August 2027. This non-training but fully supported role offers exposure to Emergency Medicine, development opportunities, and a self‑rostering system to support work‑life balance.

You will work in a dynamic multidisciplinary team, supervising junior doctors, maintaining safe staffing, and engaging in audits, teaching and quality

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent is essential.
• Minimum 4 years post-qualification experience, including 2 years in Emergency Medicine.
• Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
• ALS/ACLS certification (or booked within 3 months).
• Experience at ST2+ level in a relevant specialty.

Responsibilities

• Assess, investigate, diagnose and manage patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
• Supervise and support junior doctors (F1, F2, GPVTS).
• Ensure safe staffing standards and breaks when acting as shift leader.
• Participate in departmental audits and Quality Improvement projects.
• Engage in simulation training and departmental teaching.
• Participate in clinical governance, patient safety and risk management activities.
• Rotate briefly (supernumerary) through Acute Medicine, SDEC, Fracture Clinic and Ophthalmology during induction.
