Job description

This is an opportunity to become Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, for a large Emergency Department (ED) at RDH, as a 12 month secondment/fixed term contract. This is a pivotal time for the department, and we are looking for a leader who will drive and empower change.

You will work in partnership and in a supportive way with the Matron and lead senior sister, to provide strong, empowering leadership to the ED nursing team, providing clinical effectiveness, excellence in governance and patient safety principles, and provide excellence in operational leadership.

Within ED, we work as a large, supportive and dynamic MDT and are looking for a compassionate, engaged and collaborative leader.

Clinical Leadership

  • Providing expert clinical and management advice and guidance to the ED team
  • Ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care
  • Managing patient flow and escalating/managing potential issues
  • Acting as a role model and developing the junior staff
  • Participating in the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols
  • To lead and manage the 45 minute ambulance hand over in pitstop.
  • To support in maintaining the 4 hour target
  • To support in ensuring the wait to be seen if within 30 minutes - 1 hour

Operational Management

  • To work directly with the senior management to ensure all targets are maintained
  • Coordinating and managing the daily operations of the ED
  • Managing resources effectively, including staffing and equipment
  • Working with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of service improvements

Staff Development

  • Supporting , mentoring and performance managing junior nurses and other healthcare professionals
  • Leading and implementing the education and training of staff
  • Providing feedback and performance management
  • Promoting a positive and supportive work environment

Professional Development

  • Maintaining and updating their own clinical knowledge and skills
  • Participating in professional development activities, such as clinical supervision and appraisals
  • Adhering to professional codes of conduct
  • Leading and participating in quality and safety initiatives

Other Responsibilities

  • Working with the Matron and other senior staff to ensure high standards of care
  • Liaising with other departments and external agencies as required
  • Contributing to the development of the ED as a learning environment
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
