Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London is seeking an experienced Band 5 nurse stepping up to Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse / Sister in the Adult Emergency Department. You will lead shifts, coordinate patient flow and support junior staff while maintaining high standards of patient care.

This role offers leadership development within a supportive NHS team and opportunities to contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in a fast-paced ED environment.

Qualifications

• Registered adult nurse with significant Emergency Department experience.
• Strong clinical skills and a passion for patient-centred care.
• Experience leading shifts and supporting junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care.
• Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of patient care.
• Plan, organise and deploy staff according to ability and workload in order to meet patient needs. Manage effective flows of patients within Emergency Services to meet NHS targets.
• Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
• Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
• Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, students and junior staff, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
• To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
• Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to Emergency Nursing as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse / Clinical Nurse Manager.
• Take responsibility for self‑development through the appraisal system and work towards completing agreed personal development plan.
