Job summary

St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 8a Matron for the Emergency Department on a 12‑month secondment. The role requires strong leadership, clinical excellence, and a commitment to improving patient flow and experience across the ED.

The post involves a high-pace environment with weekend and bank holiday rota commitments, and candidates should demonstrate strategic leadership, governance understanding, and the ability to lead service improvements across sites

Qualifications

• NMC Level 1 registered nurse.
• MSc in a relevant subject or willing to undertake within 1st year of employment.
• Post registration Emergency care course - Acutely unwell Adult/advanced assessment course.
• Management/leadership qualification.
• Experience at senior nurse level band 7 or above.
• Emergency floor experience.
• Service development and audit experience.
• Understanding governance and assurance systems and application to practice.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for operational management and professional leadership for all areas of the Emergency Department.
• Be a highly visible and proactive leader acting as a clinical resource and ensuring the sustained delivery of high standards of nursing care and service delivery.
• Responsible for the quality of the patient's environment and lead on facilitating changes which improve the patient's experience.
• Play a key operational role and maintain a proactive approach to managing patient flow through the service.
