Emergency Department Junior Sister/Charge Nurse (Band 6)

We are seeking forward-thinking ED nurses who are looking to share a wealth of experience, who are able to lead a team of 28 nurses and AHP's on a shift-by-shift basis.

You will feel comfortable leading the care delivery for the sickest of patients in the resuscitation room or coordinating patient flow through the department, offering mentoring and support to your colleagues.

Main duties of the job

  • To have responsibility for coordinating the shift in the 'Silver' nursing role. This includes managing the flow of patients through the department and acting as an expert resource for the nursing team.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Band 7 on duty in supporting the team in the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and effective care.
  • Liaise regularly throughout the shift with the 'Silver' Doctor and ambulance personnel, to discuss all patients and to ensure all clinical plans are appropriate and in place.
  • Adopt a highly visible accessible approach for patients, their carers, and relatives, and all staff within the MDT alike. Lead by example and help to empower staff in their personal and professional development.
  • Work closely with the medical team and other agencies, including SWASFT to ensure patient safety and prompt and appropriate care is given.
  • Be innovative with ways of working, and strive to offer ideas which will develop the service and which best fit the demands made upon the department, and be encouraged and supported to challenge working practices in order to become as efficient as possible.
  • Undertake supervision, mentorship, and where appropriate teach registered and non-registered nursing staff.

Person Specification

Skills & Experience

  • Active NMC Registration
  • Significant Post-Registration Experience in ED or Critical Care
  • ILS (1), Evidence of Trauma Training (1), PILS (1)
  • ALS (1), EPALS (1), ETC (1)
  • Experience in Audit or Research
