Job summary

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is seeking Locally Employed Doctors for the Emergency Department. Substantive roles with permanent or fixed-term posts (6 or 12 months) are available, with potential transition to substantive contracts.

Applicants must have GMC registration and relevant emergency medicine experience, including NHS exposure. The department recently expanded and offers supportive supervision, a busy ED environment, and opportunities across acute care pathways.

Qualifications

• GMC registration with a licence to practice.
• Primary medical qualification recognised by the GMC.
• PLAB (if applicable) as required.
• IELTS overall 7.5 or OET ALS accepted.
• Evidence of completion of a 2-year training programme.
• Demonstrable skills and experience in Emergency Medicine.
• Experience of working within the NHS; MRCEM exams encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Initial assessment and triage to prioritise care.
• Diagnosis and treatment including urgent medical interventions.
• Monitoring and stabilising patients in critical states.
• Collaboration with ED nurses, consultants and other staff.
• Documentation of patient information and outcomes.
• Communication with patients and families about diagnoses and plans.
• Adherence to hospital and departmental protocols.
