Role Overview

The EAC role in Guernsey and Alderney is positioned between a well-experienced UK Emergency Care Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician and requires First Response Emergency Care Level 4 or SJA 'Emergency Crew' certificate.

About the Ambulance Service

The Ambulance Service in Guernsey and Alderney is a not-for-profit organization in partnership with the States of Guernsey Health Service, operating since 1936 on a subscription basis. The service responds to 999 calls across categories One to Four and employs Paramedics, Community First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians, Emergency Care Assistants, and Ambulance Care Assistants.

On Alderney

The service on the smaller island of Alderney is staffed by four Emergency Ambulance Crew members working on a double-crew basis on a four on/four off rota. You will respond to emergency and non-emergency situations, assessing and treating patients to your skill level and transporting patients as required. Patients needing hospital care are transferred to the island's sole hospital, which provides a range of healthcare services for the 2,300 residents and is within 1.5 miles from anywhere on the island.

Healthcare Facilities

The local hospital, supported by GPs, has 14 continuing-care beds and 8 general-care beds primarily for general medical and minor injury admissions. Acutely ill, maternity, and pediatric patients are treated in nearby Guernsey, which sends a critical care team if necessary for stabilization and transfer.

About Alderney

Alderney is the third largest of the five islands in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, located near the French coast. The island features beaches, historic fortifications, a small castle, and offers a relaxed lifestyle in a safe environment with scenic views, diverse dining options, rich history, and unique wildlife.
