Job description

We are looking to recruit an experienced minor injuries qualified Practitioner, someone who is passionate about patient centred care and wanting to enhance your primary care clinical skills.

Working as an Emergency Care Practitioner for The Birches Medical Centre you will be responsible for on the day assessment for both health and clinical needs of our patients. Utilising your clinical skills and clinical judgement to fulfil consultations from start to finish, from diagnosis to treatment regimes, with the ability to refer patients if required.

This role will include face to face consultations.

Main duties of the job
  • To carry out daily consultations with patients or representative
  • Facilitate a comprehensive patient history during the consultation; if needed physical examinations
  • Use of your expert knowledge and clinical judgement to identify potential diagnosis
  • Decide on and carry out treatment, referring to secondary care within local agreed pathways and protocols as appropriate
  • To prescribe, if suitable, medication treatment regimes in accordance to local formularies and within practice prescribing protocols, with the ability to review guidelines where applicable or request additional information if not available

We are a small but passionate and close knit surgery located in Kesgrave, surrounded by affluent and prosperous areas on the outskirts of Ipswich. Our staff and patients are held with the upmost importance and we strive daily to look after them to the highest possible standard. All staff from clinical to non-clinical are offered a well-balanced workload and have full access to a supportive team both in and out of their specialist area.

The Birches Medical Centre itself is a practice using SystmOne clinical system, with a list size of approximately 6500 patients. We are pleased to announce our connection with the new Wolsey PCN, this new collaboration is between a select number of GP practices within the local area. This venture offers a significant part of our future GP funding.

Our patients are often happy to take responsibility for their own health, however, we offer on the day contact to a wide selection of teams when they feel help is needed. The main access for our patients is via Anima,this has made a great improvement to the access we offer our patients and we are always looking at new technology to aid our patient journey.

Job responsibilities

The remit of our Emergency Care Practitioner will be to work with and on behalf of the Clinical Team at The Birches Medical Centre.

The focus and main responsibilities within the role is to deliver exceptional patient care, directing experience and knowledge to patients with an array of health complaints, from minor / acute problems to chronic / long-term conditions experiencing need for Clinical advice. Highlighting and implementing management and preventative interventions where applicable.

You will be responsible for advancing patient care, applying clinical decision-making based on each individual and delivering collaborative working, as a unit, with all teams situated at the surgery.

Full support of both practice and locally executed policies and procedures will be required while providing leadership and direction within the practice.

This role is open to Emergency Care Practitioners at any stage in their career. We have had Physicians Associates and Emergency Care Practitioners who we have supported in training in various stages of their careers.

  • Details of your past and present professional development are required - using examples where necessary
  • Experience of working within Primary Care or GP Practice
  • Specialism in any long-term condition management is desirable but not essential.
  • Other related experience, areas of expertise and skill sets also desiable but not essential.
