Job summary

Cummins is seeking an EMEA Supplier Quality Placement Student for our Emission Solutions team in UK, Darlington. The role is onsite for 3 days a week and starts Summer 2027, designed for placement-year students.

You will support supplier quality programs, collaborate with core project teams, and help implement corrective actions while using data visuals to track progress.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or Project Management.
• Strong project management ability to plan, execute and deliver.
• Experience creating documents and analyzing data (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of supplier quality control and GD&T basics.
• Familiarity with AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot).

Responsibilities

• Support VPI Supplier Quality Program Leads with delivery of Cummins quality expectations with external suppliers.
• Build relationships as part of the project Core Team and coordinate with Supplier Quality Engineers.
• Collaborate with Purchasing to enable VPI program with suitable suppliers.
• Partner with Supplier Quality Engineering to resolve external product or manufacturing quality issues.
• Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Use PowerBI to inform management and stakeholders on project status.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic EMEA Supplier Quality Placement Student to join our team specializing in Quality for our Cummins Emission Solutions segment in UK, Darlington.

• During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential!
• This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer of 2027.
• The requirements are to be onsite for 3 days per week so you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf.

External Qualifications and Competencies

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Support VPI Supplier Quality Program Leads with delivery of Cummins prototype and production quality expectations within the supplier base by working in close partnership with external suppliers in order to improve quality and program outcomes.
• Build strong relationships as an extended member of the project Core Team and integrate with the technical function and supporting Supplier Quality Engineers to understand if new product designs and/or technologies can be repeatedly manufactured by external suppliers.
• Working with the Purchasing function to enable the Value Package Introduction (VPI) program to utilize suppliers that meet both quality and cost expectations.
• Partner with Category-oriented Supplier Quality Engineering resources to ensure robust resolution of externally supplied product quality or manufacturing quality issues
• Support, or lead root cause analysis, development of corrective actions and verification of the effectiveness of corrective actions.
• Apply data visualisation tools to inform management and/or key stakeholders of project status (PowerBI)

Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

• Studying a degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Project Management or equivalent discipline
• Project Management expertise to be able to plan, execute and deliver projects efficiently
• Delivery of document creation, data analysis, presentations and communication (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote)
• Knowledge of supplier quality control processes, manufacturing process validation and/or engineering drawing controls (GD&T) to communicate design intent.
• Understanding and application of AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot)
