Job Description:

EMEA Investigations Editor (Editor-in-Charge)

We envisage the successful candidate being based in London, UK.

Reuters is seeking an accomplished, tenacious and deeply experienced editor to produce ambitious investigations, illuminating explanatory journalism and spellbinding narrative work primarily in Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Africa. The successful candidate will spearhead major investigative projects and other in-depth enterprise journalism across these dynamic and varied regions.

We value editors who are creative, collegial and collaborative - and able to thrive in a large, globe-spanning newsroom. As EMEA Investigations Editor , you'll work closely with Reuters editors, reporters and visual journalists around the world to leverage our vast expertise on political, business and social issues and our on-the-ground presence in dozens of cities in these regions.

This is not an entry-level job. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will have an impressive portfolio of clips that demonstrate a track record of producing agenda-setting, high-impact investigative coverage as an editor. You'll show an ability to generate a steady stream of original investigative, explanatory and narrative ideas.

About the Role

As EMEA Investigations Editor at Reuters you will:

Spearhead the conception, reporting and publication of high-impact investigative and explanatory stories on a wide variety of subjects.

Work with journalists around the world.

See through the publication of projects from start to finish, responsible for the reporting, writing and factual bulletproofing of the work you edit as well as the visual journalism that goes with it – and which will sometimes be the main vehicle for that work.

Collaborate closely with colleagues around the world, with varying degrees of experience. You'll partner with fellow investigative editors, regional editors and bureau chiefs, data journalists, multimedia teams and, crucially, the reporters and visual journalists that you'll be guiding on this work.

About You

You're a good fit for the role of EMEA Investigations Editor at Reuters if you have:

A portfolio of bylined work (as either reporter or editor) demonstrating an ability to produce agenda-setting investigations, deeply illuminating explanatory journalism and spellbinding narratives.

The ability to produce and to help spearhead both complex reporting projects and quick-hit in-depth pieces.

The ability to produce agenda-setting work in multiple media, not just text.

Experience of managing a team.

Experience working with visual journalists and data journalists.

Numeracy: comfort working on projects that involve gathering and making sense of data and an ability to spot opportunities where the creative use of it can elevate stories.

Please Note: To be considered for this position, please submit your CV and cover letter, outlining why you're a great fit for the role. Applications will close at 23:59 on Sunday 8th September 2024. Early applications are encouraged.
